Semi-pro cricket team in Oregon moves to league play, earns full membership with the USACA
The Beaverton Cricket Badshahs are returning for its second season, earning full membership with the USACA and slated to debut with the Portland Metro Open Cricket League this spring.
The team has 11 verbal acceptances and is planning to sign an additional 4-5 players, team officials said. Returning players as of 1/1/2010 include:
Gaurav Saxena: Co-Champion: matches played; Co-Champion: 6s; Champion: wickets;
Mathew Joseph: Runner-up: catches;
Ashutosh Satyam: Sixth in catches;
Gurmeet Sethi: Playing in only 1/3 of the matches finished -- Runner-up: 4s; Runner-up: catches; third in wickets.
Harish Shikhare: Had 5 4s in 10 matches;
Keshav Reddy: Co-Champion: matches played;
Kishor Yadav: Third in 4s;
Rohini Telukutla: Champion: 4s; Champion: catches;
Justin Lacche: Co-Champion: 6s;
Vivek Gupta: Third in 4s;
Rene Mandiangu: rookie season with the team, although Rene practiced with the team in 2009.
“It was important for this franchise to earn full USACA status and I encourage cricket teams to consider the great opportunity for membership and liability insurance the USACA is offering (see the USACA website for details),” Badshahs President, Justin Lacche said. “This team’s continued growth is because of our players – their dedication is the driving force. We realize and respect Oregon has many talented, established, veteran, cricket teams. They have been very fair in providing us the venue to compete, now we need to step up and earn needed tournament victories.”
The Badshahs also saluted USACA West Coast Region Rep, Rajesh (Raj) Padhi for his on-going hard work and dedication promoting and developing cricket in the USA’s western states.
